Warrenton

 

Warrenton is the county seat of Fauquier County, Virginia. The population of the city was 9,611 in 2010 (up from 6,670 at the 2000 census). The population is expected to reach 10,027 in 2019. It is located at the intersection of U.S. Routes 29 and 211. Home.

The city is home to seven courthouses, the oldest dating back to 1795. There were two courthouses on the same site before the Old Courthouse, which was completed in 1890. Some of the earlier structures were destroyed by fire. The present courthouse, which is now a legal office complex, opened in 1974. The old courthouse still houses the General District Court.

The median household income in Warrenton is $50,760. There are many churches and thriving mercantile establishments in the city. It also has two schools. In the Civil War, Warrenton served as a hospital town. It changed hands 67 times during the war, and after 1862, it was mainly in Federal hands. However, the town is still home to some low-income residents. Almost one-fifth of the population lives in poverty.

Warrenton's historic district is home to a variety of historic buildings, including several 18th century houses. You can visit the Old Jail Museum behind the town's Courthouse to learn more about the history of the town. The old jailhouse was used as a jail until the 1960s, and several cells have been preserved. You can also visit one of the town's many thrift shops and small shops.
